Generic Drug: Salmeterol (beta-2 agonist).

Indication: Prophylaxis of acute asthma attacks, nocturnal and post exertional attacks. Also useful for chronic asthma and COPD.

Contraindication: Hypersensitivity to salmeterol. Children below 4 years of age.

Dosage & Administration: Available as inhaler.

Adult: 25mcg -100mcg two times daily

Children: 50mcg two times daily

Special Precautions:

  • To be used cautiously in cardiac diseases, diabetes, hypertension, hyperthyroidism and hypokalemia.
  • To be used cautiously in pregnancy & lactation.

Side effects/ Undesired effects/ Adverse drug reactions: Tremors, palpitation, restlessness, hypokalemia, ankle edema, angioedema, urticaria, hypotension and collapse.
