Hives or Urticaria

Hives (or Urticaria) are an outbreak of itchy welts of varying size on the skin. When the swellings are large and invade deeper tissues, they are called angioedema. Hives may develop on the face, lips, tongue, throat, eyes, ears, and even internally. The well known causes of Hives are allergy to foods or drugs, especially penicillin and aspirin, though often the exact cause cannot be determined.
