Generic Drug: Betamethasone.
Indication: Acute allergic and inflammatory reactions, cerebral edema, anaphylaxis, acute asthma attack.
Contraindication: Hypersensitivity to preparation. Viral, fungal and tubercular infections.
Dosage & Administration: Available as tablet, injection and oral drops. Adult: 0.5-7.5 mg per day oral, 4-20 mg IM/IV. Children: 0.1-0.2mg/kg/day oral, 1-4mg per day IV.
- To be used cautiously in cardiac diseases, diabetes, hypertension and hyperthyroidism.
- To be used cautiously in lactation and pregnancy.
Side effects/ Undesired effects/ Adverse drug reactions: Systemic steroid effects on prolong use such as Cushing’s syndrome, osteoporosis, glaucoma and generalized weakness.
