Generic Drug: Ketotifen.

Indication: Azofen is indicated in prophylaxis of bronchial asthma to minimize the frequency and severity of asthma attacks. It is also useful in other allergic conditions including rhinitis, allergic conjunctivitis, atopic dermatitis, and urticaria.

Contraindication: Hypersensitivity to ketotifen, diabetics on oral hypoglycemic drugs and children below 2 years.

Dosage & Administration: Available as Azofen tablets. Adult: 0.5 to 1 mg at bed time could be increases to 2-4mg in divided doses if required. Children (above 2 years): 1 mg once or twice a day.

Special Precautions:

  • Not indicated to control acute attacks.
  • To be used cautiously in diabetic patients.
  • Avoid driving and machinery operations.
  • To be taken with meal.

Side effects/ Undesired effects/ Adverse drug reactions: Sedation, dry mouth, dizziness, nausea, and weight gain.
