Generic Drug: Levo-salbutamol + Beclomethasone
Levo-salbutamol (beta-adrenergic stimulant) is a bronchodilator while Beclomethasone (synthetic corticosteroid) has strong anti-inflammatory properties.

Indication: The combination therapy is recommended for treatment of asthma where requirement of inhaled bronchodilator and corticosteroid therapy in disease management is established.

Contraindication: Allergy or hypersensitivity to any component in the preparation.

Dosage and Administration:
For adult: Two inhalations, three to four times daily.
For children: One or two inhalations, two to four times daily.
*Aerocort inhaler can be used by a device named SPACER.

Special Precautions:

  • Aerocort is indicated for routine management of asthma on long term basis. It is not to be use in acute attacks.
  • Patients with cardiovascular risk need extra precaution while using Aerocort due to beta adrenergic effect of levo-salbutamol.
  • Levo-salbutamol can cause paradoxical brochospasm which should be treated instantly with some alternative drugs.
  • Beclomethasone can cause systemic effects in high doses; these are Cushing’s syndrome, growth retardation in children, adrenal suppression, cataract and glaucoma.
  • Patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis need special care while using aerocort.

Side Effects / Undesired effects / Adverse drug reactions:

  • Levo-salbutamol can cause following side effects: Mild tremor, headache, paradoxical bronchospasm, allergic reactions, hypocalcaemia, dizziness, tachycardia and muscle cramps.
  • Beclomethasone dipropionate can cause following side effects: Oral candidiasis (thrush), hypersensitivity reactions, adrenal suppression, easy bruising of the skin, growth retardation in easy bruising of the skin, children, hoarseness and throat irritation.
